Enjoy !

The Oak Hollow Sailing Club held its July 2012 Regatta on Saturday, July 28th, under sunny skies and better than forecasted winds, which ranged from about 4 to 8 mph, with occassional higher gusts. We had seven member boats participating, with one guest crew, Paul, while our new members Mike and Marie Schram rented the club’s Harpoon 4.6 to practice for future regattas.
Thank you to Mellissa Palmer, her son Ethan, and Rosalie Austin for handling committee boat duties, and to Connie Sloan for the delicious refreshments!
We had a beautiful day, with very competitive races, and very good participation considering several members were on vacation.
Race results are attached to this note.
Our next regatta is scheduled for Saturday, August 18.
Thanks!

Get Ready for the July Regatta

To all Oak Hollow Sailing Club Members:
This is to remind you that the July Regatta is scheduled for Saturday, July 28th, rather than on our normal 3rd Saturday of the month, due to the Hydrofoil Championships being held on Oak Hollow Lake this weekend.
Captain’s Meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the shelter at our sailing side marina at the end of Waterview Rd. Melissa Palmer and Rosalie Austin will be handling committee boat duties.
We hope to see you there! If you are a new member and have sailing experience, or have been recently trained, we hope you will consider renting a Sunfish to participate with us in the regatta (if its your first time racing, don’t worry, it is not complicated and we will help you get started). Also, we have the 15′ Harpoon available to rent for our members with sailing experience. Please contact Paul Walter, at 336-707-8112, or at this email address if you are interested in renting it for the regatta. The cost is $20, and it will be launched and rigged for you.
Also, for members without boats, there may be crew opportunities for the regatta, and/or you can learn about committee boat duties, if you aren’t going to sail.
Thanks,
Paul Walter

July Fourth Notice….

First a thank you, again, to the entire Parks and Recreation department.
OHSC members are allowed FREE storage of their boats at
the North Ramp. What we call the “Sailing Point”.

We received this note from Brad this week:
——————————————————-
It occurred to me that in less than 2 weeks the 4th of July will be upon us and I just wanted to give you a heads up to share with the others that have boats stored over at The North Ramp. I want to preface this with the fact that this is just an FYI and not a request to move the boats. However, that being said, we open that area up for parking during the fireworks and that parking lot gets a lot of traffic. I just wanted to make you aware of this fact in case anyone was concerned and or wanted to move their boat out before. If my boat was there, I would want to know ahead of time. AGAIN, I am not asking you to move them, but I did want to make you aware. Happy 4th in case I don’t see you before.

Thanks,

Brad
——————————————————-

The North parking area is generally a calm and quiet place.
The evening of the Fourth, it will not be so calm or quiet.
Paul Walter will be bringing his boat and the club boat home , as will Jerry Eldred be bringing his boat home for the weekend.
We suggest you do the same.

June Regatta Coming Up!

To: All Oak Hollow Sailing Club Members,
We hope you’ve marked your calendars for this Saturday’s June 16th Regatta! The current forecast for Saturday, is calling for a beautiful day around 80 degrees with ENE winds. We are excited that several of our new members may be joining us on Sunfish, as Andy, Mike, Marie, Paul S., and Debbie have all received basic instruction within the past few weeks.
The wooden thwart and seats were refinished on the club’s 15 foot Harpoon, and she was used this past weekend for additional training for Debbie, Mike, Marie, and Paul S. She sailed beautifully under the respective captaining of each of those members, and she is ready to be rented by any member who is ready to sail her. Please contact Paul Walter (336-707-8112) if you are interested in renting the Harpoon. I will see to it that she is rigged and launched for anyone who wants to rent her.
Race committee duties will be handled by Paul Walter and any other members who may want to assist rather than race or crew. We look forward to good participation and a beautiful day!
We plan to hold the Captain’s Meeting at 10:30 a.m., with first race to begin at 11:30 a.m. We will be in the picnic shelter back in the wooded area, as another group reserved our normal shelter (before we were able to back in March).
Sincerely,
Paul Walter
